Regardless of the mode in which a newborn enters the world, whether vaginally or cesarean, the birth process is traumatic. The baby experiences physical traumas as she slowly squeezes down the birth canal or as she is pulled from the uterus during surgery.

Physical trauma is one of the causes for subluxation in the spine. Subluxation is a misalignment of the vertebrae, or bones, of the spine. When there are subluxations, the neurophysiological process is interrupted. The nervous system can be over-stimulated.

Some of the symptoms of a newborn with nervous system dysfunction include:

    • Issues with latching during breastfeeding
    • Colic and gassiness
    • Restlessness and sleep issues
    • Constipation
    • Inability to be soothed
    • Sensory problems.

While chiropractic care does not “treat” any of the above symptoms, regulating the nervous system leads to calm newborns who eat well and sleep well. Chiropractic adjustments help regulate the nervous system by removing the subluxations and eliminating the interruption of the neurophysiological process.

Newborn adjustments are very gentle. The newborns often yawn, smack their lips, and fall asleep after their adjustments. Newborns with constipation often have a bowel movement the same day of their adjustment. It is never too early to have your newborn checked by a Chiropractor!
