Chiropractic Care for Basketball Players

March 19, 2021
March 19, 2021

March Madness is here, lets talk about the benefits of chiropractic care for basketball players!

Did you know that most NBA teams have a team chiropractor? Colleges are starting to catch on to this as well. We are seeing more and more college athletic programs hiring chiropractic doctors. This is because they understand the importance of chiropractic care for basketball players (all athletes really!), specifically how it allows for better performance on the court, helps avoid injuries, and helps in recovery time.

Competitive Advantage

According to a chiropractor, who spent 26 years as the team chiropractor for the Utah Jazz:

“Chiropractic care helps to give a team and athlete a competitive advantage in whatever sport they participate in. Specifically, it helps to enhance endurance levels, assist in the recovery from many structural injuries and achieve overall peak performance. By including chiropractic into an athlete’s regular health practices, one is able to maximize training and optimize functional balance and skill.”

Chiropractic care isn’t reserved for just the pros. Athletes at all levels of competition can benefit from chiropractic care.

How It Works

Regularly scheduled visits to their chiropractor, players ensure their spinal bones are properly aligned to promote improved mobility and improved nerve flow. Better performance on the court requires athletes to have unrestricted mobility and lighting fast reflexes. The alignment of the spinal column directly affects both of these areas. If the spinal alignment is compromised, then the spine will not freely move the way it should. This will, in turn, affect the players’ ability to bend, turn, twist, and jump. These are all movements that are required for peak performance.

Lightning-quick reflexes and improved hand-eye coordination are also vital for improved performance for any basketball player. Chiropractic will positively impact both reflexes and coordination because they both depend on a properly functioning nervous system. 90% of the central nervous system travels through and between the spinal bones. Therefore, proper spinal alignment and motion are vital for information transfer over these nerves to be uninterrupted and not delayed.

If the spinal alignment is compromised the nervous system will be compromised as well. This will lead to a reduction in reflex speed and hand-eye coordination.

By working on the spinal alignment and spinal motion, not only will mobility improve, but so will your reflexes and your hand-eye coordination. In fact, it is common for basketball players to say that they jump higher as well.

Do You Need Help from a Chiropractor?

If you’re a basketball player (or any athlete!), you need a personal chiropractor who can help your body be more flexible, recover from injury quicker, and improve your reflexes and hand-eye coordination on the court. To see if you would benefit from chiropractic care a thorough evaluation looking at your spine and nervous system should be done. If Vertebral Subluxation (misaligned and locked spinal bones interfering with the nervous system) is confirmed, then we can help you be a better basketball player and improve the quality of your game and life!
